EU Tourism agenda updates & New opportunities
Sustainable tourism is a top political priority for the new European Commission, which is currently developing an EU Sustainable Tourism Strategy. To support this, two consultations are open: a targeted one until 15 August 2025 and a public consultation until 12 September 2025.
Both consultations will help shape future EU actions. These actions aim to promote tourism’s green and digital transition while increasing its resilience, They build on the 2022 Transition Pathway for Tourism and the European Agenda for Tourism 2030.
In this context, regenerative tourism is gaining more attention. Unlike sustainability, it seeks to improve destinations rather than just preserve them. This approach is especially important for coastal and island areas. The Regenera4MED Interreg Euro-MED project positions itself as a pioneer of regenerative tourism in the Mediterranean region.
An online meeting will take place on Friday 11 July 2025 (09:00–11:00 CEST). The CPMR Intermediterranean and Islands Commissions are organizing it. The meeting will include:
-
updates on the EU tourism agenda,
-
latest progress of NaTour4CChange and Community4Tourism projects,
-
the official presentation of Regenera4MED and the involvement of CPMR-IMC/IC member regions
-
preliminary results of the Interreg Euro-MED 5th call, including the upcoming activities of EcoMedIslands.
The meeting targets member regions of the CPMR-IMC Sustainable Cultural & Maritime Tourism Task Force and is open to observers.
