Our story

The Mediterranean is at a breaking point. While it remains one of the most visited regions in the world, its vulnerability to climate change is increasing at an alarming rate. Rising temperatures, ecosystem degradation, and pressure on local communities paint a stark picture of a region under strain, and the tourism model in place only amplifies the problem. Built on mass consumption and seasonal surges, this model is no longer sustainable, neither for the environment nor for the people who live here.

Yet there is hope, and a growing will to change. Over 70% of European citizens say they are ready to travel more responsibly. This signals a crucial opportunity to rethink the way we welcome, host, and engage with visitors. Regenera4MED emerges from this crossroads with a clear purpose: to shift from a model that extracts value to one that regenerates it. Regenerative Tourism goes beyond limiting damage, it actively restores what has been lost and creates shared benefits for people, places, and the planet.

At its core, Regenera4MED is about making this shift possible in the Mediterranean. By building on shared values, cultural ties, and a collective urgency, the project aims to turn the region into a global example of how tourism can become a force for renewal, not decline.

regenera4med partners

Regenera4MED brings together a diverse partnership of Mediterranean regions committed to rethinking the future of tourism. By joining forces across territories deeply impacted by climate change, the partners aim to co-develop and test regenerative tourism approaches that restore ecosystems, empower communities, and enhance local resilience — turning shared challenges into shared solutions.

Regenera4MED involves 10 partners from 6 countries:
